Music for Africa Concert with The Zombies

The Zombies are very kindly playing a concert in aid of Music for Africa on the 27th May 2012 @ Westland Leisure and Conference Complex, Westbourne Grove, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2DD. Rob Koral and Zoe Schwarz and Modeste (www.modeste.co.uk) will be supporting. Doors Open at 7pm. Viridian International Donation

Music for Africa has been chosen to be a beneficiary of the Viridian Nutrition Charity Donation Programme for 2011 and has received a donation of £250. Thank you to Viridian Nutrition and all the people who voted for us.

 

Ramshackle Rally to Valencia

No Music For Africa Concert for the foreseeable future

Sadly the Annual Music For Africa Concert at Montacute House will not be happening in the foreseeable future as MFA are now concentrating their efforts on raising funds through less financially risky means. See Music for Africa Festival 2010 Page or click here to read the local news report.

Trinity College Exam Results

Congratulations and well done to the students who took Trinity College music exams in October/November 2008. The results have now been received and once again the students have surpassed themselves with 2 distinctions, 9 merits and 16 passes. See the Achievements page for full details.

Race Night Fundraiser at the Brewers Arms

On the 7th June a fundraising Race Night was held at The Brewers Arms in South Petherton. The event was arranged by Steven Warren and raised 475 for Music For Africa. Thanks to Steven for all his efforts.

Donation from Gerry Brennan

1000 euros have been very kindly donated to MFA from a www.skyros.com participant Gerry Brennan. This money went straight away to S. Africa and paid for 31 students taking Trinity College exams in November 2008. Thanks Gerry

 

A Big Thank You for a Very Kind Donation

Ms Pauline Ellis and Mr John Hawley have very kindly donated 500 to MFA.

The Money was raised in memory of Steven Hawley, a loving son, brother and friend, who sadly died on 15 March 2008, aged 21.

December 2007 - A Huge Thank You for Donations to Music for Africa

Donations from Sir Douglas Cameron of £1000, Tony Bonds Builders in London of £500 and Madelin Casson for £200 have been received and have really helped to boost the charity at this difficult time. A Huge thank you to you all.

Following the dreadful weather this summer that almost washed out the Music for Africa Festival, the charity was not left in good shape financially. These recent donations mean that at least for the present the wages of the Music for Africa teachers have been assured.

November 2007 - Brotherwood raises over £1,200 for Music for Africa

October 2007 - Local Companies Donate £1,800 to Music For Africa

Three local business people have donated £1800 between them to Music for Africa after reading about the charity's struggle to survive following poor attendence at the Music for Africa festival due to the weather. The money donated by Jeremy Wood of Jeremy Wood & co, Alex Smith of Career Check and Simon Franciewicz of Robert Frith Optometrics has been a real lifeline at this difficult time.

July 2007 - Yeovil MP David Laws was named as the first patron for Music For Africa

Mr Laws said he was "delighted" to accept the position and Mr Toomey said it was a "wonderful endorsement" of his efforts to help young people in Africa, particularly in the village of Phokwane in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

April 2007 - Tom performed for free at the Contesa Charity Ball

The Contesa Charity raises money to feed starving children affected by aids in Zambia. The evening raised £5000!!

Roger and Esnat (Founders) are doing a Superb job helping to feed 350 children each day!

Of the 6 entries at grade I guitar, there were: 1 pass, 4 merits and 1 distinction.

Of the 9 entries at grade 2 guitar, there were: 3 merits and 6 distinctions.

February 2005 - Tom Opens Classrooms in Phokwane

The people of Yeovil raised the money by coming to the Music for Africa concerts each July. The local people in Phokwane worked with several volunteers from England to build the classrooms. A Touch of Glass generously donated the plaque. And Tom officially opened the classrooms in March 2005. They took 2 years to build and now the kids have classrooms they can be proud of.

November 2004 - John Burton and Matt Brook spent 28 days walking to and around mount Kailash in Tibet then on to advanced base camp on the NE ridge of Everest - and raised money for Music for Africa.
